Crystal Ellis, MSW
My name is Crystal Ellis and I was born and raised in Killeen, Tx to two expatriate parents. As a first generation American I ventured into reading about the history and legacy of all those who are marginalized in America. My love for racial and social justice started at a young age but gradually I was able to learn more and expand my knowledge. In 2017 I received my Bachelors of Science in Social Work from West Texas A&M University. At West Texas A&M University I was able to do many things such intern in the office of diversity and inclusion. I placed second in the Oratorical Contest at the Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference at Texas A&M University. While obtaining my bachelors I fell in love with with micro social work as well as racial justice, social justice and environmental social work. I graduated from UTSA Master's Social Work program in 2020. During that time I began to learn about the importance of community work. I have experience being a qualified mental health professional in community settings and have been working with youth for 10 years in many different capacities. Currently I am a youth program manager for Teens Taking Action, a group that discuss racial and social justice topics with middle schoolers and high schoolers. I am a self proclaimed plant mom with over 20 different house plants and a garden. I enjoy reading, taking naps and working towards a better tomorrow.
Welcome To Washington D.C.
National Conference isn’t about YWCA USA, it’s about our broad network of local YWCA associations that implement the work at the local level for women, families, and people of color every day. It’s a time for our Local Associations to share, as a community of learning, and to walk away inspired by each other and the work of the YWCA family. It is a time for the YWCA movement, united as One YWCA, to share and celebrate our history, our mission and impact, planning for the work ahead, and continuing to write our YWCA story.
